Driving around the long trailers of the semi trucks to overtake them is a quite risky job, as it leads to many head on collisions from the opposite lane. But driving behind the smelly ones for the entire journey can be tiring and a bit boring too.

The Argentinean arm of the South Korean tech giant is showing off what it calls a Safety Truck, a semi truck with a wireless camera mounted on the front, displaying the road ahead on a screen tacked on to the back of the truck. The move is a part of an effort to reduce head-on collisions from passing.

The front-mounted camera broadcasts its signal to four monitors on the back of the truck to give drivers behind the truck a good view ahead. In addition to making passing safer, Samsung says that this would let drivers see any obstacles in the road ahead, preventing the need for sudden emergency braking.

This is something that the video technology must have been used for and will take overtaking to a whole new level. In many countries, one of the prime reasons for the number of road accidents has been due to indecent overtaking. While many countries have tried to tackle it by creating ‘overtaking zones’, maybe this piece of long sought tech will solve those issues and help in reducing the number.

Samsung said the truck used for testing isn't currently operational anymore, but it is working with government and non-government safety agencies to develop the tech further.
It seems like it would work well on two-lane roads, but it wouldn't really have much use on multi-lane highways. The screen could also prove to be a distraction, and image quality issues could be a concern as well.
It's an innovative approach to road safety, but Samsung hasn't provided much of a timeline for its development, so who knows when, or even if it will be adopted.
Below is a video regarding the truck’s working prototype:

In today's world of screens, there's a lot of wonderful things that has changed our lives. But one thing that is not so spontaneous or natural is the act of writing or drawing on them. Phree lets you write, draw, annotate and express yourself in countless other ways and on virtually any surface.

Phree can connect to any of your devices like your smartphone, tablet, laptop, TV or any other device that has a Bluetooth connection. You can instantly jot down your ideas, notes, phone numbers or sketch your imaginations. It is compatible with software and apps like Office, OneNote, EverNote, Acrobat, Google Handwriting Keyboard, Viber and more.

The latency between our writing motion and the perceived ink-trace on the screen needs to be nearly instantaneous for it to feel "right". OTM Technologies have achieved this with their Optical Translation Measurement(OTM) technology that precisely tracks hand-motions on any surface. They have built a compact, low-cost optical sensor that fits at the tip. OTM sensor is a 3D laser interferometer which tracks relative motion of a nearby surface by measuring interference signal with extremely high resolution and very high accuracy.

Phree is thin and has an oval cross-section for a great user experience. The pen like device comes with an integrated screen to receive brief texts. When you get a message, just write back and send! When it is held in the writing position, the screen faces the user for easy activation. Phree also functions as a headset. You can change from pen to a highlighter, from red to blue, from messaging to dialing with just a touch.

Phree will come in Black, Silver and Gold. It weighs 30gm and is 8.5mm thick. It also comes with a case that has an embedded wireless charger. So just pop in Phree inside the case to charge it, which can be charged on a wireless charging pad. The case cap attaches magnetically to the body of the case to form a stand for any smartphone. Phree also comes with a cap to protect the tip when not in use. The rubberized cap also acts as a stylus.

All of us exercise the control over holding a pen or pencil at a young age. We can now experience that using Phree on digital screens as well.
